If you witness animal suffering while abroad, please act while you are still there. Waiting until you return home is often too late—helping animals takes time, effort, and urgent attention.

Every year, we receive countless messages from holidaymakers—especially in Greece, Morocco, and other countries—distressed by the cruelty they’ve seen. Many tell us it ruined their trip and say they’ll never return. Most often, they’re horrified by abandoned puppies and kittens left on roadsides or thrown into bins—tragically, this is not uncommon.

In many countries, animal welfare standards are far below those in the UK. Strays are technically the responsibility of local councils, but in practice, most authorities show little or no interest. The real help comes from small, volunteer-run groups, many of whom are overwhelmed and underfunded.

These volunteers do incredible work—but they can’t do it alone. So if you see an animal in distress, don’t walk away. Don’t assume someone else will step in. Your help matters.

In many parts of the world, cruelty to animals is shockingly common—and often accepted as normal. Stray dogs are beaten, poisoned, abused, and killed. Without help, they don’t stand a chance.

You can change that.
